The First Annual Chile Pepper Festival is upon us, people. September 29, this coming Saturday, Roosevelt Row will celebrate the beloved chile in all forms roast, dried, cooked and fried. And in case you were more or less hesitant about attending an event that would undoubtedly leave a fire in your mouth, allow us to light a fire under your ass, by giving you an in depth look at this one-day-only affair.

Let’s begin with the food. In addition to bringing some extra strength antacids, you better bring your appetite because the good folks at Roosevelt Row have invited an all-star lineup of local, and restaurants, and more including:

Chef Julio Mata of Barrio Café
Chef Carla Wade Logan of Carly’s Bistro
Chef Mike Kohley of Fire & Spice
Chef Virginia Senior of Urban Beans
Chef Tim Cobb of Luncha Libre
Chef Devin Clough of Q UP BBQ
Chef Sandra D. Hicks of Sandra Dee’s Catering
Jobot Coffee & Crepes
Crescent Ballroom
America’s Taco Shop
AZ Food Crafters
Paletas Betty

And if you think this festival is a dry one, think again. Four Peaks will be pouring beer and margaritas while live local acts including Bears of Manitou, Daryl Scherrer, King Fathand, Pick and Holler, and Sara McAllister Band set the tone.

Crooked Sky Farms will also be there roasting their famous green chile peppers, which have been drawing people from far and near to their farm on the Arizona/New Mexico border (and gradually their Phoenix location). In addition to roasting these chilies on location, they’ll also be offering jalapeños, serranos, and ristas, which are basically the dried version of what they’ll be roasting only red, strung up, and lasting you well into the season.

And if any of your fellow feugo enthusiasts are unable to attend this festival you can let them know that all is not lost. Roasted chilies can still be found at Pro’s Ranch Market and select Food City stores.

Whichever one you choose, it’s best to call in advance and make sure they have the type of peppers you’re looking for (Pro’s Ranch Market carries roasted Anaheim chilies) and if they’re roasting them on location (certain Food City stores have select days where chilies are being roasted on the spot; the other days, they’re simply refrigerated).
