Fans of the Big Butter Burger at Matt’s Big Breakfast can rejoice.
This Friday night, Matt and Ernie Pool’s homage to the all-American classic will be the featured flavor of the week at Welcome Diner, as owner Sloane McFarland continues his series of weekly culinary one-offs.
“We’re really excited about this,” says Matt Pool, “since we’re not really open in the evenings. Now people who can’t get to us during the day can try our burger.”
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
He’s not worried about recreating their butter-cooked burger in the Diner’s tiny kitchen. “We’re used to small spaces,” Pool says, chuckling.
You’ll find Matt and Ernie at Welcome Diner from 6:30 to 11:00 p.m., with an inevitable line of hungry carnivores. Grab a seat outside under the stars if the weather complies, or take a burger or three home. Prices and potential side dishes are still under discussion.
Stay tuned for the rest of the Welcome Diner’s October offerings, which include a Roosevelt Row Potluck on the 24th, and Carol Panoro-Smith and Julie Hamtpon’s event on the 30th – an evening with a.ware, featuring butternut squash soup with greek yogurt and fresh sage, and chocolate cookies with garam masala.
