I sometimes wake up around 2 or 3 in the morning, stressing out and wishing I could just fall back to sleep. But today, I opened my eyes at 6:15, squinting in the dark to see the clock, and happy to realize I could just get up and make an early day of it. I am sooo not a morning person.

Stopped by Royal Coffee Bar to get a perfect latte and some of their excellent granola with yogurt. Seemed like good motivation to head to the office and get a jump on things.

A surprise was waiting for me when I got here — coffee and muffins for the whole editorial department. And I was the only person here at that point.

So I already knew that a certain national cupcake chain has a big marketing budget, because they bring cupcakes to the office for almost conceivable holiday, and in the past, we’ve written them up from time to time. But this was a grocery store instant muffin mix brand, not really the kind of thing Chow Bella covers.

What can I say? It was such a cornucopia of stuff that I took photos and sat down to share it with you. They brought a huge basket of muffins. They brought muffin mix packets. They brought coffee and plates and napkins and creamer.

That part isn’t so unusual — free food has certainly arrived at New Times on many occasions, mostly when we least expect it and already have lunch plans.

But this Martha White brand also sent over a big bundle of pencils, a stack of magnets, tons of coupons, and an unbelievable quantity of reusable grocery bags.

I don’t even know what else to say right now, except “Wow.”
