No, sommelier Marnie Old and Dogfish Head brewery founder Sam Calagione won’t be in town this week to pimp their book He Said Beer, She Said Wine, but hey, who needs them? The folks at Changing Hands Bookstore are hosting a tasting party anyway, and it sounds like a good time.

Like many of the store’s food-centric events, this one will be held off-site, at Tempe’s Four Peak Brewery, on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. And in the conversational spirit of the book (its subtitle is Impassioned Food Pairings to Debate and Enjoy — From Burgers to Brie and Beyond), attendees will be able to sample different beers and wines, see how they pair with a variety of snacks, and then vote on their favorites. A Studio Vino vintner and a Four Peaks brewmaster will also be on hand to guide the tasting.

Forty bucks gets you a copy of the book (author-signed book plates are available), snacks, and six drink tickets; couples get a book to share, snacks, and 12 drink tickets for $60. Call 480-730-0205 to register.
