Yesterday we met Cafe Zuzu’s Jim Schindel, a skyscraper-sized man who’s a fan of Maker’s Mark and a member of the U.S. Bartenders’ Guild. Today, he utilizes his vast knowledge of spirits to craft a cocktail he calls the Bourbon Smash — a boozy summer drink that combines lemon, mint, and sweet, sweet whiskey.
(Recipe after the jump)
The recipe:
1.5 oz. Maker’s Mark bourbon whiskey
½ oz. simple syrup
2 lemon quarters
1 sprig mint
How to make it:
Muddle the lemon, mint and simple syrup in a large metal shaker. Add ice and bourbon. Shake well and pour into a large glass. Spend the day watching horse racing and talking with a Southern drawl.
