If you saw him at TEDxPhoenix last November, are planning to hear him speak at Ignite Food in March, or are simply a fan of his seasonal American fare at his restaurant, Beckett’s Table, in Central Phoenix, then chef Justin Beckett is a familiar name — and one that’s just been nominated as The People’s Best New Chef by the editors of Food & Wine magazine.
Food & Wine nominated Beckett, along with ten other chefs, for the award in the Southwest region and are placing the ultimate winner in the hands of the people, who will have until this Sunday to vote online for their favorite chef.
As of this post, Beckett has eight percent of the vote, is in fifth place, and trails significantly behind Ned Eilliot of Foreign & Domestic in Austin, Texas, who has 34 percent of the vote.
Read on for details and to find out how to vote.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
Beckett is the only chef from Arizona to be nominated. Food & Wine says Beckett is amazing “because he’s making homey, comforting dishes that are refined and delicious” and that his must-try dish is chicken ‘n’ dumplings with herbed saffron cream.
Voting is as easy as checking a box. To learn more about the nominees and to vote for your favorite, go here.
