Sometimes the simplest things can make a big difference in your day, like the care your barista puts into swirling espresso and foamy milk into an intricate design that brings a smile to your face. It’s art that’s more ephemeral than a Buddhist mandala, around for a matter of seconds until you take your first sip.

Soon, creative baristas will get a chance to show off their latte art skills, and the public will get a chance to taste their caffeinated creations, at a Latte Throwdown at Lola Coffee (1001 N. 3rd Ave., at Roosevelt) on Saturday, December 11, at 6 p.m.

Cartel Coffee Lab, Echo Coffee, Cortez Coffee Company, and Petite Pour are also sponsors for the two-round, free pour competition.

The free event will also feature complimentary coffee tastings and a “half-time show” with an overview of five manual coffee brewing methods.
