Though no one has confirmed that The Monocle is officially no more after it came to light that the owner’s criminal activities made him ineligible for a liquor license, the “opening soon” banner on the North 3rd Street building has been replaced with a “for lease” sign this week.
We called the owner of the property, who declined to comment, but from The Monocle’s Facebook images, as well as a peek in the windows, we can tell you that the space is amazing.
Formerly home to neighborhood favorite, The Roosevelt Tavern, the historic house was built in the 1900s and is located in the heart of the downtown Phoenix arts district.
Much of the interior retains its original, old-school charm, and the location is both vibrant and in desperate need of more dining options – so we are especially eager to see who sweeps in to scoop-up what looks like a turn-key new restaurant space.
