Coffee fanatics have been waiting for the opening of Lola Coffee on Roosevelt, the second location of Daniel Wayne’s popular java joint, and it’s finally here. Stop by the historic Gold Spot building at 1001 N. 3rd Ave. (the entrance is actually on Roosevelt) between 7 and 10 p.m. tonight.
Wayne’s done a great job with the space, which looks so different from the Italian deli that used to be here. Business hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. If Sunday can support the business, he’ll be open Sundays as well.
Here’s Wayne, getting the groovy lipstick red espresso machine in gear for tonight’s debut.
Lori Fenn is the featured artist. Her lush, organic pieces are acrylic on wood, layered with glossy resim. In February, look for pieces by sculptor Pete Deise.
You can see the shiny coffee roaster in the back room, behind a big window.
The seating arrangements are cozy. I’d hang out here and read an issue of Gastronomica while nursing a latte.
Or else I’d watch the world go by from one of these window seats.
