In case you’ve just returned from a five-year submarine mission, there’s a revolution afoot regarding our country’s school lunchrooms. Since celebrity chef Jamie Oliver highlighted issues like sugar-laden milk, chicken nuggets, and lack of fresh produce in his television show, Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, parents and communities have been up in arms as to what to do.
Amy Kalafa, award-winning documentary filmmaker, nutritionist, and author of Lunch Wars: How to Start a Food Revolution and Win the Battle for Our Children’s Health has some ideas — and she’ll be sharing them at 7 p.m., Monday, August 29, at Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe.
During the free event, Kalafa will be reading from her book which, “arms parents with information and tools they need to get unhealthy — even dangerous — food out of their children’s school cafeteria and to hold their schools and local and national governments accountable for ensuring that children are served healthy meals at school.”
