The Guilty Pleasure: Mountain Dew Baja Blast Where to Get It: All over the place pretty soon. Price: Varies by a number of factors. Expect the same price as regular Mountain Dew. What it Really Costs: The usual soda schtick of empty calories and liquid candy. Plus loads of caffeine.

It’s pretty unusual for a massive food and beverage company to have something that one could call a cult favorite. That’s exactly what Pepsico has with its Taco Bell-exclusive Mountain Dew Baja Blast.

In case you aren’t familiar with Baja Blast, it’s a product of the longstanding association between Taco Bell and Pepsico, which once owned the restaurant chain. Pepsico came up with a lime-flavored version of Mountain Dew to pair with the vaguely Mexican flavors of Taco Bell. The combination worked, and Baja Blast was enough of a hit that it’s been available at Taco Bell for the past 10 years.

A good number of people I know openly despise Taco Bell’s processed Gringo-Mex, but speak in hushed, reverent tones about the neon turquoise soda. Some fans have even gone so far as to sweet-talk Taco Bell employees into selling them boxes of the syrup. Not that I know anyone who would do such a thing, of course.

Soon, those people won’t have to resort to donning dark glasses and sneaking through the drive-thru lane for their fix. After a decade of Baja Blast as a Taco Bell exclusive item, Pepsico is rolling out Baja Blast in bottles and cans at retail locations everywhere.

Pepsico says that bottled Baja Blast is a limited-time summer promotion, but I won’t be at all surprised if it sticks around longer than that. Look for it starting on May 5 at retail stores across the country.
