Two restaurant industry vets have just opened a sleek new Thai restaurant in an Arcadia space that used to be a fast food joint.
SaBai Modern Thai, at 4121 E. Thomas Rd., is owned by husband-and-wife team Eric and Atchara (Holly) Willis. He was a manager at Wrigley Mansion for a decade, while she was a manager at Tempe’s Thai Basil.
Unlike many Thai restaurants, where the menu lists more than 100 items, SaBai’s simple offerings include half a dozen appetizers and 15 entrees, including salmon filet in green curry, pad thai, tom yum (coconut milk soup), and crab wontons.
While the building used to house a short-lived location of Tortas El Guero, and before that, a Wendy’s, the Willises have changed up the look with clean, minimalist decor.
Barely a month old, the restaurant doesn’t have a liquor license yet, but one is in the works.
SaBai is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday. Call 602-954-8774 for more info.
