A Bay Area Thai restaurant just opened a new location at Scottsdale’s Shops at Gainey Village, and there’s already favorable early buzz from a couple of my favorite food spies.
Soi 4 Bangkok Eatery has a sister restaurant in Oakland, California, along with three other Thai spots run by the Sirimonkolvit family in Berkeley and San Francisco.
From what I’ve heard, Soi 4 distinguishes itself with contemporary Thai food, not the typical homestyle dishes you find at most Valley Thai restaurants.
The menu has a variety of small plates (wraps, rolls, and dumplings, mostly), skewers of meat and seafood, noodle and stir-fry dishes, and curries.

Stir-fried duck breast with lychee and snap peas in red curry ginger sauce sounds good to me, as does pan-roasted wild salmon and oyster mushrooms in basil, chili, and crackling peppercorn sauce.
