Phoenix New Times Food Editor Lauren Saria has won first place in the “newspaper food feature category” for “Flour Power,” her 2014 cover story about efforts to grow heirloom wheat in Arizona. 

The AFJ announced 59 awards at its annual conference, held last week in Florida. Saria won in the category designated for newspapers with a circulation below 120,000. Other winners included LA Weekly, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe.
