I knew that Five Guys Burgers and Fries was highly anticipated — and not open quite yet — when some friends made a burger run after a few rounds of drinks at the Lost Leaf. They returned, dejectedly, and ordered some more beer instead. Sure, that’s a meal in a glass, but once you get hungry for a Five Guys burger, it’s hard to go without.

But as of today, the beloved burger joint is finally in business at Downtown’s CityScape development (50 W. Jefferson St., Ste. 180).

Five Guys burgers are big, juicy, old-fashioned things that make a glorious mess when you bite into them, and they’re served up in a clean, classic dining space where there’s a neverending rock ‘n roll soundtrack. There are five other locations in town: on Mill Avenue in Tempe, at Scottsdale Fashion Square, and North Phoenix, North Scottsdale, and Mesa.

I think I know what I want for lunch . . .
