Field of Dreams — not the manicured, mowed and chalk lined kind — the kind that billows hues of green, grey and lavender.
If you aren’t planting yourself in Provence this summer, take a ride to Red Rock Ranch and Farms 7th Annual Lavender Festival in Concho, Arizona. The festival runs June 24-27th and July 1-3 from 9 am to 3 pm.
Christine and Mike Teeple retired from California to Concho in 1991. They planned on growing vegetables and planting an orchard. As part of their landscaping design, lavender was planted, its bug, deer and rabbit resistant and many varieties grow well at high altitudes. As the lavender thrived and flourished, Mike and Christine continued to plant their fields.
Currently they grow and harvest 35000 lavender plants, which include 12 varieties of lavender. Provence and Dilly Dilly for culinary herbs, Grosso for sachets and spa treatments are among the most popular.
