Royal Coffee Bar, owner and architect Hayes McNeil’s shop of expertly made espresso drinks and fresh pastries, has come to downtown Phoenix — again.

Originally opened in 2006 at Second Avenue and Jackson Street, Royal eventually moved to downtown’s Phoenix Public Market, where it shared space with the Phoenix Urban Grocery and Wine Bar until the Market shuttered in 2012.

This week, Royal Coffee Bar returned to downtown Phoenix. And this time, it’s inside the Carriage House at Historic Heritage Square, at Seventh and Monroe streets.

Royal’s new Carriage House location shares the area with noteworthy restaurants Nobuo at Teeter House and Pizzeria Bianco as well as being close to Arizona State University’s Mercado campus and the Arizona Center.

Royal will do all the roasting for its beans at its downtown shop. The hours, which will expand as the coffee shop’s traffic increases, are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Royal Coffee Bar also has two locations at the Biltmore Fashion Park, one underneath Red Door Spa and the other at Union.
