Arizona will have to go without Khmer cuisine for a month. Sekong by Night, the only Cambodian restaurant in the state, has closed for April. Chef Lakhana In, who opened the restaurant just over a year ago with her son, Yutheana In, is traveling back to the mother country for an annual visit. (Now there’s a real sign of authenticity.)
Diners who will be missing their regular fix of loat cha (a rice noodle and beef stir fry), bok lahong (shredded green papaya and carrot salad), and baynchaiv (turmeric crepes filled with bean sprouts, shrimp, ground pork, onions, and sweet and sour sauce) won’t have to wait too long. According to the restaurant’s message, the family will only be out of town for this month. Subscribe to their e-mail list to stay updated and to receive a coupon for 10% off. And, expect Sekong by Night to reopen Tuesday, May 1.
