Superstition Farm, the family-run, working dairy farm in Mesa, will be making tracks to Phoenix to support the “Save the Icehouse” benefit beginning at 5 p.m., this Friday, May 27, at the Icehouse. The Icehouse, the gallery and performance warehouse space (and one-time true ice storage facility) near Fifth Avenue and Jackson Street, is in danger of shutting down if costs can’t be met.

Chef Matt McGowen of Superstition Farm told me in addition to the free appetizers of chipotle whipped cream cheese on crostini bread topped with cucumber and roasted red bell peppers, he’ll be serving up three kinds of sliders (lentil, barbecue chicken, and portobello mushroom) in addition to his popular “potato puppies,” hush puppy-like creations stuffed with fresh jalapeños, green onions, garlic, farmers’ cheese, poblano chiles, cilantro, and lime juice served with chipotle aioli.

“If I can swing it,” McGowen added, “we’ll also have sweet potato ice cream served in homemade waffle cones.”

Superstition Farms will be donating the appetizers and giving a percentage of their sales to the Icehouse. According to The Arizona Republic, more than 100 local artists will attend and contribute to the the cause as well.
