Sushi Cupcake Surprise!

I didn’t expect to publicly share the fact that today is my birthday, but one of my darling friends just sent me the coolest, coolest surprise. “Sushi” cupcakes!

These are like the eye candy you see in glossy cookbooks about fancy, creative pastries, and here they are on my desk, just in time for lunch. So this is my lunch. Taking a bite right now . . .

Ooh, good times. White cake with vanilla custard inside, with the thinnest layer of chewy fondant wrapped around it as “nori” and coconut-topped fluffy frosting as the “rice.” And look at the tiny fondant blobs of “wasabi” and “ginger”! Love this.
