If you’ve got a craving for chef Johnny Chu’s spicy, bubbling bowls of broth, we’ve got some bad news. You’re going to have to wait because the chef’s hot pot and ramen restaurant, T. Spot in Chandler, has closed its doors for good.
Chu re-branded the restaurant as T. Spot in fall 2013. It was called Tien Wong from 2010 until last year, when the chef added ramen and tea to the hot pot-focused menu. Chu’s wife, partner, and general manager Linda Q described the concept as a “permanent pop-up” inside Tien Wong.

LInda Q now tells us that they closed T. Spot but will open a new hot pot restaurant next door to Chu’s new RedThai restaurant in Sunnyslope. The new hot pot restaurant will be called Shabu Fondue and will feature a similar menu to T. Spot/Tien Wong. — but with more extensive soup broth and ingredient options.

Chu’s RedThai Southeast Kitchen opened at 7822 North 12th Street about two weeks ago. That restaurant offers a menu that blends Thai and Vietnamese cuisines with modern takes on other Southeast Asian dishes such as curries, spring rolls, and noodle dishes.
Linda Q says they’re aiming to have Shabu Fondue open by the end the month. Stay tuned for details.
