Tempe residents with a love of deep-fried fish may already know the name Tortilla Fish. The restaurant at 1320 West Elliot Road has been serving Sonoran-style fish and shrimp tacos and quesadillas since 2013 — and now owner Francisco Peralta is planning a second (and third and fourth) restaurant.
The expansion starts in Central Phoenix, near the booming food scene in the Arcadia neighborhood. Next month, Peralta will open a second Tortilla Fish restaurant at 4539 East Thomas Road, near the intersection of 46th Street and Thomas in the Arcadia Crossing shopping center.
As at the original restaurant, you can expect a menu of fish, shrimp, chicken, and beef tacos, as well as two salads, two quesadillas, and drinks such as Mexican sodas and aguas frescas. There also will be a few additions to the menu at the new restaurant, including rice and carne asada.
One of Tortilla Fish’s signature offerings is the restaurant’s salsa bar, where customers can load up their tacos with a number of toppings. The list includes all the usual accouterments like cabbage, cilantro, onions, homemade hot sauces, pico de gallo, and limes, as well as Baja-style coleslaw, homemade tartar sauce, and the restaurant’s homemade cilantro, avocado, and chipotle dressings.
The second restaurant is expected to open in mid-October, and Peralta hopes to open additional locations in Scottsdale, the Southeast Valley, and West Valley.
