After over two years at The Ritz-Carlton Phoenix, executive chef Stephen Toevs is moving on to warmer waters — so to speak. Toevs will continue with the property as an executive chef, but this time at The Ritz-Carlton Aruba, which is set to open on November 22.
Who next to take the helm of The Ritz-Carlton’s signature restaurant Bistro 24, The Club Bar, in-room dining, and the property’s banquet and catering offerings?
Look north, to Canada.

The Ritz-Carlton Phoenix has named Ontario native Garry O’Connor its new executive chef.
O’Connor spent his childhood working in his grandfather’s butcher shop. His résumé includes Marriott International Courtyard, Crown Beach Resort, Hideaway Resort, and The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. He is a certified chef de cuisine from the Culinary Institute of America and a Red Seal Journeyman Chef from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
“I believe food made with care and the right intentions leaves indelible impressions on us all,” says O’Connor. “Through my travels, I have found that the dishes that stay with you are the ones that let the ingredients speak.”
The Ritz-Carlton Phoenix appointed O’Connor as its executive chef on October 15.
