We’re barely over a week into December, but the onslaught of over-the-top holiday eating has already begun.

This Saturday and Sunday, get a taste of Mexico’s culinary Christmas tradition at the Food City Tamale Festival, an annual event that features handmade tamales from dozens of local church parishes.

From green corn to red chile beef, expect all kinds of tasty tamales made from time-honored family recipes. Eat ’em on the spot or purchase a bunch to stock your fridge or freezer.

When you get a breather from all the eating, check out crafts and live entertainment as well.

This year, make your gift count –
Invest in local news that matters.

Our work is funded by readers like you who make voluntary gifts because they value our work and want to see it continue. Make a contribution today to help us reach our $30,000 goal!

$30,000

The Food City Tamale Festival takes place at Cesar Chavez Plaza (201 W. Washington St.) in Downtown Phoenix, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, and tamale prices vary.
