Fresh off opening a new West Valley store, grocer Trader Joe’s has a 15th Valley location in the works.
The California-based grocery store with a cult following plans to open a 15,000-square-foot location in Desert Ridge Marketplace, per a liquor license application filed with the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control. The document was filed with the state on Feb. 17.
The grocer isn’t sharing an opening timeline for this latest location, said a Trader Joe’s representative via email. However, construction is anticipated to wrap up in November, according to the liquor license filing. Trader Joe’s adds stores to the “opening soon” section of its website three to six months before welcoming customers, the spokesperson shared.
Trader Joe’s operates 14 stores around the Valley, three of which are in Phoenix. In November 2025, the grocer opened a 9,600-square-foot location in Goodyear at the rapidly growing GSQ shopping center.
The opening attracted lines of shoppers stretching around the building, eager to get inside to grab a red cart and browse the aisles. Trader Joe’s is a destination for wine and cheese, unique seasonal treats and a freezer section packed with easy meals, party-approved appetizers and desserts. The small grocery stores offer private-label and organic goods at lower prices. That’s inspired a fervent customer base that’s not shy about advocating for stores in their communities.
This latest outpost joins Desert Ridge Marketplace, a massive north Phoenix shopping, dining and entertainment district located northeast of Loop 101 and Tatum Boulevard. Currently, the closest Trader Joe’s to the area is just under six miles away, off Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Scottsdale Road in north Scottsdale.
Last year, Desert Ridge Marketplace announced a slate of four new restaurants. Kajiken, a Japanese restaurant known for its soupless ramen, opened in January. The elevated Indian restaurant Nadu, churrascaria Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse and the intimate cocktail lounge Globe in the Dark are expected to join Desert Ridge this year.
Trader Joe’s will be among other Desert Ridge grocery and liquor stores, which include Albertsons, Target and Total Wine & More.
