Staying in? We’ve got you covered — both on the culinary and entertainment fronts. Now presenting Dinner and a Movie — a guide to a do it yourself evening of food and film.
Lately fried chicken sounds like a good idea. But ever since the movie Little Miss Sunshine hit theaters in 2006, one can not help but follow the example of Alan Arkin‘s character, and call it the F*cking Chicken. Arkin plays the drug addicted yet lovable grandfather of a dysfunctional family as they are on a road trip to a beauty pageant a la Toddlers in Tiaras. As their VW slowly falls apart, so does each member of the family, one by one, confronting a personal issue.
In addition to the F*cking Chicken, another good food idea comes from Little Miss Sunshine herself, Olive (played by Abigail Breslin), when she orders Waffles a la Mode, or as she says, a la Mode(y). We follow her lead here and swap out the popcorn this week with for a waffle and scoop of chocolate ice cream.
Recently Netflix released a list of the top 100 rentals, and Little Miss Sunshine came in second place, a much better spot than poor little Olive  in the pageant the family is racing across New Mexico, Arizona, and California to attend.

Film: Little Miss Sunshine (2006) Entrée: The F*cking Chicken Popcorn Alternative:  Waffles a la Mode(y) with Chocolate Ice Cream Beverage: Sunbru by Four Peaks  is a light and refreshing brew that is great with picnic food.
Get a bite, after the jump.

We found these little Belgium Waffles with Pearl Sugar in the bakery section at Fry’s. Top with chocolate ice cream.
