Seriously Whole Foods, what gives? Backyard chicken farming has been totally cool and hip for well over a year and we have been having to do the unthinkable and venture into feed and tack stores to purchase food for our ladies. Feed and tack stores?! Oh my, the horror!
Okay, all joking aside (we actually love having a reason to go to feed stores) Whole Foods is now selling chicken feed. Not just any chicken feed, Coyote Creek organic chicken feed to be exact.
Just like most of the products Whole Foods carries, Coyote Creek is dedicated to sustainability, organic farming and high quality products. And of course you can’t have high quality meat without high quality feed. Which is why this organic chicken feed is made up of grains grown in healthy soil which have never treated with insecticides or fertilizers and meet all USDA national organic standards. All that is fine and dandy but what about the price?
At $19.99 for a 20 lb bag, it’s double what you would pay at the feed & tack (average cost for a 50 lb bag of natural feed, $24.99). But then again, can you really put a price on quality? Plus, it comes in an adorable bag. And if you’re like one chicken owner whose name I won’t mention, if you run out of food on a Sunday when every other feed store is closed, you can easily hit the local Whole Foods.
