Grocery shopping sucks, but navigating crowds of mouth-breathers in narrow aisles can be made way more tolerable with the application of beer. It’s why we dig the Whole Foods Market in Chandler, which — despite its status as a fancypants, way-too-expensive grocery store — has one of the best beer bars in the city.
No doubt hearing the cry of Scottsdalian shoppers, Whole Foods is adding a similar tap system to its Scottsdale location this week. The new array will feature 30(!) different brews, with an emphasis on local and hard-to-find stuff (a sneak peek: Delirium Tremens, Oskar Blues Ten FIDY, Lagunitas Undercover Shutdown and Papago Orange Blossom).
The remodeled bar is set to open with a bevy of celebratory events:
- Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m. – Meet and Greet with local brewers
- Friday, 5:30-8:30 p.m. – Local Social Gathering, a social gathering for locals complete with half-price local pints, a local tapas plate and live music
- Saturday, 3-7 p.m. – Open House Reception, for which $10 gets you five beer samples, a pint glass and hors d’oeuvres
- Sunday, all day – All Star Special, when you get a hot dog or bratwurst and a pint for $6
