Astor House has traded in shared plates for a pair of hickory-wood smokers that have turned out some delicious (and a couple of ho-hum) smoked meats. Brisket is moist and delicious, as is the pulled-pork shoulder, tender and flavorful and just pink enough. Baby back pork ribs are crusty with a crunchy dry rub coating […]

The bring-your-own-bottle, dinner-only restaurant has been around since 2001, with Chef Cory Oppold presenting ever-changing modern dishes that originate from his French-driven cooking style. Diners may experience a $65, three-course, prix-fixe meal powered by keywords […]
This Arcadia eatery has been open for more than a decade, a feat accomplished thanks to the efforts of double husband-and-wife team owners: sommeliers Katie and Scott Stephens and Justin and Michelle Beckett. There’s something about Beckett’s Table that raises the profile of the dining scene along Indian School Road in this specific part of […]
James Beard Award finalist Kevin Binkley opened this Phoenix bistro, his third Valley restaurant, in early 2013 in the former home of Sophie’s Bistro. The culinary powerhouse re-imagines local produce in delicious small plates in a cozy neighborhood spot with wood floors, wainscoting, and white linen. One of the best new restaurants of 2013.
A self-described “cocktailian,” Ross Simon of Bitter & Twisted is known for his tome-like illustrated menus that offer studied riffs on legions of classics, resulting in libations that are proudly “whimsical as fuck.” Among those is the coldest old-school martini in town, which can be sipped in expansive booths upholstered in red leather under sky-high […]
Located on the second floor of the Hotel Palomar at CityScape in downtown Phoenix, this true, urban gathering place, like its contemporary American fare, successfully blends sophistication and familiarity along with a solid selection of signature cocktails. Let’s face it: Upscale steakhouses can tend to be one trick ponies. However, with a chef like Chris Curtiss at the helm, North Scottsdale’s Bourbon Steak is elevated to something unique, while still being familiar. Grilled octopus, raw fish crudo dishes, gnocchi with mussels in a white wine sauce, and whiskey-centric classic cocktails are a […]

Buffalo Wild Wings was founded in 1982 when a guy from Buffalo, New York traveled to Ohio to judge an amateur figure skating competition and failed to find any wings that measured up to the ones at home. Now B-Dubs, as it likes to call itself, has spread to nearly every state in the U.S. […]

For 15 years, diners have been lining up to order salads and sandwiches at Carla Wade Logan’s café on Roosevelt Street. But the cocktails here are first-rate, too. The Prickly Pear Margarita is hot pink and ice-cold, a must-try for visitors to the desert or those just bar-hopping on a hot day. The Whiskey Sangria […]
For years, Jason Asher and Rich Furnari have defined the cutting edge of local cocktail culture, and Century Grand and the three bars housed inside are the culmination of their efforts. Highly stylized and themed, Century Grand is home to UnderTow, The Grey Hen, and Platform 18. All immersive experiences, the first makes customers feel […]
This outpost of Craig and Kris DeMarco and Bob Lynn’s ever-expanding culinary kingdom leaves behind the boutique ambiance and eats of Postino and La Grande Orange for something far more sophisticated and satisfying. Built like an airy, one-story Arizona ranch house, with a peaked roof, a big front porch, and a huge patio out back […]
The “chop” portion in the name of this fast-casual place of healthy eats in Old Town Scottsdale refers not so much to meats (although it has them), but to its handling of vegetables. Here, carrots, kale, cucumbers, and the like are pressed into juices, placed into bowls, and packed into sandwiches and wraps for a […]
Adero is a luxury hotel in Scottsdale and Cielo is the resort’s onsite restaurant. Menu items are made with regionally sourced ingredients, the craft cocktails are heavily on tequila and mezcal, and much of the beer is from Fountain Hills’ Bone Haus Brewing. Cielo, Spanish for sky, also offers plenty of scenic outdoor seating.
