The Duce

Don’t judge a book by its cover. The understated exterior hardly does justice to everything that goes on inside, including swing dancing, boxing, and shopping. As far as the drinking goes, The Duce has an impressive selection of old school cocktails as well as few specialties you won’t find anywhere else. The vintage trailer serves […]

Durant’s

Since 1950, Durant’s has sat proudly on Central Avenue, its iconic midcentury sign lit up for decades as the city has slowly grown around it. This vibe here is old-school, vaguely Rat Pack-ish: red-leather banquettes, scarlet wallpaper, dim lighting, a back entrance that takes you through the kitchen. El Capri

For most of the week, this east-side discoteca remains cold and dark, hidden behind a chain-link fence and locked up tighter than Fort Knox. The original is located in the Coronado district, where the family-owned restaurant has been a go-to spot for arroz con mariscos since opening in 2014. A new location, just a few miles away on Seventh Avenue, debuted in the summer of […]

El Exquisito Hot Dog

This cash-only, family-run food truck serves fantastic Sonoran-style hot dogs until past midnight most nights on West Indian School Road.

El Horseshoe Restaurant

Horseshoe Restaurant is the very definition of a hole-in- the-wall restaurant, in the best sense of the term. The small Mexican restaurant on Buckeye Road is inelegantly sandwiched between a mass of carburetor and machine shops, but don’t be too put off by the location. The restaurant happens to be a fine destination for Mexican […]

Emerson Fry Bread

Anybody familiar with our food truck scene knows that one of the longtime greats is Emerson Fry Bread, mobile purveyor of American Indian foods and gemlike drinks. Classically trained Loren Emerson, who is Mohave, Quechan, and Mexican, and Dine chef Roxanne Wilson are behind the truck, along with their kids. You can’t roll up to […]
