Tacos Jalisco

Next time you’re in Old Town Scottsdale famished and overwhelmed by the (overpriced) upscale food options, do yourself a favor and head a mile south to save a little dough without disappointing your stomach. For over 15 years, Tacos Jalisco has been serving delicious dirt-cheap Mexican food on 68th Street near Thomas Road. Everything on the menu at this mom-and-pop joint is simple, but it’s also a homerun. The carne asada is tender and lightly seasoned, served with homemade tortillas, diced onions, and fresh cilantro. Or, make it a Mexican-American affair to remember by diving into a heaping pile of chopped steak on top of French fries and adding cheese, sour cream, beans, and guacamole. Want something a little less casual? Try the mojarra frita (fried tilapia) or camarones rancheros (shrimp served in spicy tomato sauce). Tacos Jalisco also has tacos (of course), burritos, and light snacks like chiles toreados (roasted jalapenos), perfect dishes to chow down after hitting up the neighborhood dive bar, Closing Soon Saloon, located a couple doors down.
