Urban Phoenix Cafe is the brick-and-mortar eatery from the Left Coast Burritos folks, Keri Frazier and Steven Contreras. The congenial dining room on Indian School Road is packed with personality: vibrant street-style art, an open kitchen, low-key music, friendly service. The food is part Mexican, part Southwestern, with a dash of stoner and circus. Burritos, plates, sides, and a whole lot of tacos. A Spam taco has Hot Cheetos dust. A shredded beef taco is enrobed in lacy crisped cheese. Tacos range from creative to almost traditional. Big plates can get similarly fun, like a tray heaped with steak, eggs, elote, and more, or like a vegetarian take on chile colorado. Some burritos contain fries, some breakfast tacos prickly pear jam. If you want solid coffee and food a little different, stop by for breakfast or lunch.
