Six months after it became legal for adults to walk into a shop and buy marijuana in Arizona, a musical that hearkens back to the quaint days of marijuana panic is coming to Scottsdale.

Reefer Madness: The Musical, a musical satire of the unintentionally hilarious 1936 anti-marijuana exploitation film Reefer Madness, will be performed by the Scottsdale Community Players at the Historic Stagebrush Theatre later this month.

The play “takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence,” according to the Stagebrush site.

Tickets are $22. The show opens Friday, July 23 and runs through Sunday, August 1. More info here.

The Historic Stagebrush Theatre is located at 7020 East 2nd Street in Scottsdale.
