Next time you find yourself strolling down Mill Avenue in search of a buzz, you might want to check out the latest addition to the district.

It’s a coffee shop, but it’s no ordinary coffee shop. Wake-N-Bakery offers a selection of infused coffees, teas and lemonades. Patrons can customize their beverage of choice with varying levels of CBD and hemp THC.

More than 20 beverage choices are offered, including a pistachio latte, Space Cake Cider, Purple Haze Lemonade and Mary Jane Chai. CBD and THC dosage levels range from a mild 10-milligram dose to a potent 100-milligram option.

The Tempe location opened on Sept. 27 and boasts a vibrant, neon-lit interior decorated with cannabis-inspired artwork and oversized couches. Co-founder Brianna Banks hopes the laid-back vibe appeals to customers.

“We want people to come in for the experience,” Banks said. “Our environment is fun, and we feature a lot of local art on the walls as a way to connect with the community.”

Founded in Chicago early 2020, Wake-N-Bakery also has a location in Flagstaff as well as stores in Illinois, Tennessee, Michigan and North Carolina. The Mill Avenue location is open until 3 a.m. on weekends, putting it at the heart of Arizona State University’s nightlife.

Should ASU students get the munchies — provided they’re ages 21 or older — Wake-N-Bakery sells a range of infused and non-infused baked goods, including cookies, muffins, scones, cupcakes and cheesecakes. The infused treats are categorized into easy-to-understand potency tiers of micro-, mid- and macro-doses.

For those who abstain from alcohol but still enjoy a buzz, Wake-N-Bakery’s delta-9 THC offerings provide an alternative to the nightlife experience. “We also wanted to bring an alcohol alternative to Mill Ave,” Banks said. “We want to be the new thing to do.”

Wake-N-Bakery also sells its own brand of prerolls, which customers can be enjoy on the shop's patio while sipping on an infused seasonal pumpkin latte. And the bakery is dog-friendly, so bring your furry friend along for a CBD-infused dog treat.
