2 Live Crew have fallen hard. While they’re still on the scene — with a new lineup change — they’re not playing massive concert venues any longer. And when they come to Tempe this weekend, they won’t even be playing the Marquee Theatre or the Clubhouse Music Venue. The foul-mouthed rappers, known for their pornographic lyrics and booty-shaking bass beats, will headline Club Red as part of the club’s 18-and-older Best Friends Forever monthly dance party. And if that’s not sad enough, the guys have fewer than 200 followers on Twitter. Nonetheless, we’re guessing people may still be curious to see them live. The party-centric ’80s hip-hop pioneers caused a storm of controversy back in the day with raunchy, vagina-themed titles such as “We Want Some Pussy,” “Pop That Pussy” and “The Pussy Caper.” Yes, you could easily get drunk by putting on a 2 Live Crew album and drinking every time the word ‘pussy’ is mentioned. The guys released As Nasty As They Wanna Be in ’89, which became the group’s most successful album to date. It also spawned the club banger “Me So Horny,” which is spun throughout clubs across the U.S. today.
