Aloha’s MySpace page lists the group’s hometown as “Cleveland, Cincinnati, Rochester and Washington, D.C.” — a rather nomadic declaration for a band four albums into its career. But since Tony Cavallario and Matthew Gengler formed Aloha in 1997, the quartet’s ability to avoid settling in one place has only been a creative boon. The fantastic new Some Echoes is one of those albums tailor-made for life’s existential crises: “Weekend” sighs, “Feels like I’m going the wrong way,” while the playful (yet ornate) music conjures Death Cab for Cutie’s lo-fi days, Shack’s lush melodies, and even the prog rhythms and intricate percussion of ’70s-era Genesis.
