On Wednesday, President Obama affirmed his support of same-sex marriage in the United States, a position that's evolved over the past couple of years. He's still making plenty of room for the states rights discussion, but still, Barry's support is a big effin' deal.
"It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married," President Obama said in an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts. It's a move that many view as politically risky, but the president is being lauded by civil rights groups and the LGBT community.
"There have been times where Michelle and I have been sitting around the dinner table," the prez said, "and we're talking about their friends and their parents -- and Malia and Sasha, it wouldn't dawn on them that somehow their friends' parents would be treated differently." Props to him for saying how he feels instead of what will get him the most votes.
In honor of the POTUS with the mostest's assertion, we've compiled a list of songs for out-and-proud friends.
"Born This Way," Lady Gaga
Thanks to Lady Gaga, 2011 had an anthem about personal freedom and being proud of who you are. "Born This Way" was heavily embraced by the LGBT community, a pop jam with a message of acceptance. Work it, Gaga.
"I Kissed a Girl," Katy Perry
Even though Katy Perry goes for guys, she knows there's nothing wrong with smooching chicks once in a while, especially if their lips taste like juicy cherries. (No word on exactly how Russel Brand's lips tasted -- but we're willing to bet it was sorta funky.)
"Walk on the Wild Side," Lou Reed
Lou Reed wrote about the NYC sexual underground like it was: the NYC sexual underground. This song's pretty dark, but you've got to admire how it's catchy power got some of the strangest, frankest lyrics about sexuality committed to tape on the radio.
"Lola," The Kinks
In a similar fashion to Lou Reed's jam, "Lola" features another case of dressing up for the night. The Kinks said it best: "Girls will be boys and boys will be girls."

"Glad to Be Gay," Tom Robinson
Robinson, a gay rights activist and a gay man himself, has been singing for years about the formerly taboo stigma of homosexuality in British society.
