Festivalgoers in metro Phoenix will be eating good this spring. Between now and June, the Valley's concert calendar is crammed with big-ticket outdoor music fests, including an alien-themed electronic dance rager, multiple country music bonanzas and a baseball-themed rock festival spanning back-to-back weekends.

If you’re someone who thinks that too much music is never enough, though, another blockbuster event is headed to the Valley this spring. The Breakaway Music Festival, a touring electronic dance music event, will make its Arizona debut in April and is bringing in some high-profile artists.

The inaugural Breakaway Arizona festival will take place on April 18 and 19 at Sloan Park in Mesa. Promoters of the 18-and-over event — Ohio-based company Breakaway Group and Phoenix’s Relentless Beats — announced its lineup on Thursday.

The festival will be headlined by hitmakers The Chainsmokers, melodic house/future bass producer GRYFFIN, dance-pop duo Two Friends and EDM act Sofi Tukker, who will perform a DJ set.

The Breakaway Music Festival, which debuted in 2013 in Ohio and expanded to other states the following year, has been described by our sister publication Dallas Observer as a “celebration of all things electronic, dance and music.”

For proof, look no further than the rest of Breakaway Arizona’s lineup, as it boasts a diverse array of artists and sounds, including progressive house king Audien, tech-house duo Coco & Breezy, Canadian-born DJ Frank Walker, dubstep fiend Cyclops, indie-electronic act Koastle, electro-pop producer Daniel Allan and trap artist Juelz.

Bobby Hendrickson of the DJ Lovers Club will host both days of Breakaway Arizona

In a media release announcing the lineup, festival co-founder Adam Lynn stated that “Breakaway’s culture champions supporting locals.” As such, Arizona-based DJs Afterparty, Casti and Tommy Toole will also perform.
