Brian Vander Ark is probably one of the least known popular indie singer-songwriters. As lead singer-songwriter for the Michigan-based band the Verve Pipe, he scored hits with the songs “The Freshmen” and “Photograph.” Unfortunately, the band fell victim to record company red tape and slipped through the cracks. That doesn’t mean that subsequent albums were any less interesting. They just weren’t promoted correctly. While the Verve Pipe is still kicking, Vander Ark is pursuing a solo career, pushing his album Resurrection, which has gotten favorable reviews. Tempered and less bombastic than the Verve Pipe, it showcases Vander Ark’s deft ability to twist words into heart-rending romantic tales.
