Show: What Laura Says Thinks and Feels at the New Times Summer of Sound pop show at The Sets, June 21.

Not to toot our own horn, but we really scored by booking local indie rock sensations What Laura Says Thinks and Feels for our Summer of Sound series this year. The quintet had already created quite a stir at SxSW before annihilating the other amazing acts on the SoS pop bill with their immaculate, Beach Boys-ish harmonies, bluesy grit, and unabashed, multi-instrumentalist swap-outs and jams. What Laura Says (they shortened their name this fall) set ran the musical gamut, from the Beatles-esque pop and bop of “Illustrated Manual” to the folk whimsy of “Wish I Could Fly” (complete with vocal percussion). In just 30 minutes, WLS proved why so many people view them as the Valley’s next big breakout band — they brought stage presence and smiles, played impressively intricate songs, and nary a missed note.
