$15,000

Show: Fred Green at SRC Fields at ASU, November 3.

This Tempe trio’s gig at the “Rock for Solar” event was one of the best local shows that nobody saw. Granted, the event took place on a Monday evening and was packed with “be green” propaganda, but Fred Green’s been one of the Valley’s most celebrated reggae/rock/jam fusion bands for more than a decade, so an audience of six people (including me) seemed tragically small. The fact that the band played as if there were thousands of people watching is a testament to their talent. With their rich percussion (courtesy of a standard drum kit and a pile of bongos and congos) and smooth three-part harmonies, Fred Green sailed through a slew of original tunes, such as “Awake” and “Lose the Attitude.” You can read more about their performance at the above link. –Niki D’Andrea
