As DJ BT, Los Angeles-based turntablist and electronics whiz kid Brian Transeau is known as one of the pioneers of trance music. He's also credited with innovative techniques like the stutter edit and time correction, which tie samples together in mathematical rhythms. As a producer, DJ BT has mixed up everything from breakbeat to orchestral styles, and his list of collaborators includes artists like Sting, Madonna, and Sarah McLachlan. The 34-year-old spinster's extensive discography also includes tracks for the films Go, 3000 Miles to Graceland, and Zoolander. BT's newest album, This Binary Universe, doesn't come out 'til August 29, but the early buzz on the disc indicates an "ambient classical electronica"-type thing. Try pinning down the sound for yourself when DJ BT performs at Myst, 7340 East Shoeman Lane in Scottsdale, on Friday, July 21. The doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
