Mixtapes have been a staple of the hip-hop world, dating back to the old days when NYC selectas like Kool Herc were using the rhymes of artists like Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa to help launch their careers. Another cat who rose to glory via his masterful mixtapes was DJ Drama (a.k.a. Tyree Cinque Simmons), the official beatsmith and wax-worker for rapper T.I. Ever since he launched his career a decade ago, Drama’s gotten serious street cred by creating collection after collection of heavy-hitting hip-hop mixtapes featuring such artists as Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and Jim Jones. Drama is scheduled to pay a visit to Club Trinity, 1420 North Scottsdale Road, for a guest DJ set during the release party for Rich Rico’s Border Music mixtape. Doors open at 9 p.m. and admission is $5 before 10:30. Call 602-363-2727.
