Joel Davis, better known by his professional name, DJ Epidemic, is moving to New York. There’s just one problem. “New York DJs are terrible,” Davis says. “They don’t mix, and they all get drunk and are on drugs. It’s a very terrible scene for DJs.” Yet Davis is bound for the Big Apple, a place he’s visited every three to four months for the past year, building connections before his impending move. He may not have a particularly sunny view of the scene there, but Silver Medallion, the rising group he officially spins for, is based there, and Davis is looking forward to the chance to perform live with the group. Davis is kissing Phoenix goodbye with a bash at Bar Smith, 130 E. Washington Street, spinning tropical bass and cerebral house music as part of the long-running Sticky Fingers night. Doors open at 9 p.m., admission is $5 before 10 p.m., $10 after.
