After spending this week’s annual food fest (a.k.a. Thanksgiving) figuring out how many yams you can jam down your craw, you’ll probably wanna veg out on the couch watching the Jets and Cowboys pound on each other for football supremacy. But try to shake off the food coma after overdosing on tryptophan and drop by nextDOOR, 901 North Fourth Street, on Thursday, November 22, where DJ Smite and his guest Paul Nice will be dishing out some servings of phat beats for the masses all night long. Nice, a hardcore New Yawker, has built up quite a loaded résumé, filled with gigs remixing and producing such hip-hop heavyweights as the Beastie Boys, Talib Kweli, and Lord Finesse, and he’ll be bringing stacks of hip-hop, funk, soul, and other ill wax (including some exclusive remixes, to spin for your delight, while Smite will broadcast his signature blends of soul, Latin, and “cumbia-crunk” to the crowd. The jams start at 9 p.m. and there’s no cover.
