It'll be a truly sad St. Patrick's Day this year, indeed: Flogging Molly have canceled their March 16 show at Tempe’s Marquee Theatre.

"Our fearless leader, the inimitable Dave King, is currently battling a very serious health condition," the band announced via Instagram. "Dave and Bridget ask everyone to respect their privacy at this time; we will share as we can."

The show, part of the band's Road to Rebellion Tour, is something of a tradition across the Valley. Dating back to at least 2003, Flogging Molly have celebrated the emerald holiday by hosting rollicking shows from Tempe. (In years prior, the band have played both Marquee and Tempe Beach Park.)

"It's the best place to be doing that day in the country," multi-instrumentalist Bob Schmidt told New Times in 2013. "Just about everywhere else you go, it's freezing cold and nobody's going to congregate outside for more than five minutes."

The cancelation extends to Flogging Molly's entire run of 2025 shows, which was to include sets during their annual Salty Dog Cruise from Miami through parts of the Caribbean from Feb. 17 to 22. However, some members of Flogging Molly will still be on board to entertain their seafaring fans.

"The boat will sail as planned with 18 bands, and members of Flogging Molly, on board to celebrate the cruise, the community and our captain, Dave King," said the band's Instagram post.
