So what’s the time? Like the Beastie Boys said, it’s time to get ill, which is why Tony Poer is busting out his gold Adidas track suit and dusting off 400 old-school hip-hop tracks in preparation for Fresh on Saturday, August 8. Along with DJ mig50, Poer will be turning back the clock and transforming the Ice House Tavern, 3855 East Thomas Road, into Bronx’s Disco Fever Club (last seen in 1985’s Krush Groove) by blasting out all the ridiculous old-school we could find.” That includes jams from Run-DMC, Kurtis Blow, Fat Boys, Whodini, Sugarhill Gang, Herbie Hancock, or anyone else that precedes 1992’s The Chronic by Dr. Dre, which is pretty much when the hip-hop mood started to change. The fantastic voyage starts at 9 p.m. with a $5 cover and the bartenders pouring Brass Monkeys all night. Call 602-244-1179.
