A batch of bad-ass shows were just announced this week. Read on for the news.

Projekt Revolution 2008 Featuring Chris Cornell, The Bravery, Ashes Divide, Atreyu, 10 Years, Hawthorne Heights, Armor For Sleep, Street Drum Corps, & more Thursday, August 7, 2 p.m. Cricket Wireless Pavilion in Phoenix On-Sale Saturday, April 12 (visit www.livenation.com) $26.75-$76.75

In addition to tour founders and headliners Linkin Park, this year’s Projekt Revolution bill features the vocal talents of former Soundgarden and Audioslave singer Chris Cornell, the electronic indie rock of The Bravery, the screaming emo of Hawthorne Heights, the ballsy metal of Atreyu, and the percussive innovation of Street Drum Corps. Beat that with a stick.

Random band fact: Chris Cornell does a slow, soulful, and somewhat surreal cover of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” on his latest solo CD, Carry On.

Erykah Badu With supporting act The Roots Mesa Amphitheatre in Mesa Saturday, June 14, 6 p.m. Ticket prices TBA On-sale Saturday, April 5 (visit www.ticketmaster.com)

R&B artist Erykah Badu hits town in support of her third studio album, New Amerykah Part One (4th World War), with the always-amazing, organic hip-hop group The Roots in tow. The Philadelphia-based group is set to release its latest album, Rising Down, on April 29th.

Random band fact: Badu has dated at least three notable rappers – Andre 3000 of OutKast (with whom she has a son, Seven Sirius Benjamin), D.O.C. (with whom she has a daughter, Puma Rose), and Common.

Hank Williams III & Assjack Marquee Theatre in Tempe Saturday, May 24, 6:30 p.m. $17 pre-sale, $18 day of show On-sale TBA (visit www.luckymanonline.com)

Shelton Hank Williams (better known as Hank III) is the son of Hank Williams, Jr. and the grandson of Hank Williams, Sr., but he’s got his own distinct style. He splits his shows into two sets – one that pays homage to the outlaw country that is his family tradition, and a punk rock set with his band, Assjack.

Random band fact: Duane Denison of The Jesus Lizard once played in Assjack.

Hank III performs “Straight to Hell” live: ------

Otep With supporting acts A New Revolution, & Eyes Set to Kill The Clubhouse Music Venue in Tempe Thursday, May 8, 7 p.m. $15 On-sale now (visit www.luckymanonline.com)

Now that L.A. metal band Otep has found a new home on Koch Records for its latest album, The_Ascension, the quartet has resumed touring, with all the political rants, poetic philosophizing, and severed baby doll and pig heads that go with it.

Random band fact: In less than eight years of existence, Otep has gone through 12 various band members.
