Fans of West Coast "true school" underground hip-hop will have loads to throw their hands in the air about during this weekend's Gold Chain Music Tour stop at the Clubhouse Music Venue. Oakland legend Casual headlines; he's best known for his affiliation with the famed Hieroglyphics collective (which also counts Del and Souls of Mischief among its ranks), but the gritty battle rapper's fourth solo effort, last year's Smash Rockwell (the title character is related in name and spirit to Handsome Boy Modeling School's "Chest Rockwell," a.k.a. Prince Paul), is some of his sharpest work to date. Planet Asia is the deft yin to Rasco's gruff yang; the two MCs will perform separately and then team up to re-form Cali Agents. Turntable whiz DJ E-Rock, meanwhile, will show off the skills that make him a Bay Area mix-tape king and Sirius satellite radio favorite, while Flii Style will probably bust out some dance moves -- in addition to his freestyle rhyming, the Richmond, California, native is an award-winning choreographer for the likes of Usher and Missy Elliott.
