Mixed in amongst this week’s indie rock plethora is a Slick Rick show at The Clubhouse. The British born, New York raised M.C. is best known for being a story-rap innovator, coming of age in what many consider to be the Golden Age of hip-hop. Songs such as “Children’s Story,” “La Di Da Di” and “Mona Lisa” propelled Slick Rick to fame in the 1980s. His appearance on Outkast’s “Da Art of Storytellin’ (Part 1)” — perhaps one of the band’s finest songs — from 1998’s Aquemini helped expose Slick Rick to another generation of hip hop fans.
Joining Slick Rick with just announced shows of their own are CSS, The New Pornographers, Titus Andronicus and Pinback.
